Call for Abstract

The Scientific Committee of the 15th Asia-Pacific Congress on Clinical Microbiology and Infection invites the submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentation. Detailed instructions will be provided with the notice of acceptance to presenters.

Important Dates

  • Abstract submission starts - 1st May 2014
  • Abstract submission deadline - 7th September 2014
  • Abstract Acceptance Notification - 15th September 2014

General guidelines

  • Submission of an abstract does not constitute registration for the Congress.
  • Presenting authors of abstracts should submit their registration form together with their abstracts.
  • Any Abstract submitted by post, fax or e-mail will not acceptable. If you have difficulties in submitting an abstract online, please contact the Secretariat for assistance.
  • Notifications of acceptance will be sent to corresponding authors by 15th September 2014.
  • Scheduling information and instructions on poster preparation will be included with this notification.
  • Corresponding authors are responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have read and approved the abstract submitted.
  • Submissions not conforming to established submission guidelines will not be reviewed.

Abstract format

Please prepare the abstract in accordance with the instructions below and choose one of following subject categories as the one most appropriate for your presentation.

  • Antibacterials: surveillance, mechanism of action and genetics of resistance
  • Antifungals: surveillance, mechanism of action and genetics of resistance
  • Antivirals: surveillance, mechanism of action and genetics of resistance
  • Antimicrobials: pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and general pharmacology
  • Pharmacoeconomics
  • Antibiotic stewardship and control policy
  • Antimicrobial treatment guidelines and consensus
  • In vitro susceptibility and drug-combination interactions
  • Bacterial infections: clinical epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, therapy, outcome, and pathogenesis
  • Fungal infections: clinical epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, therapy, outcome, and pathogenesis
  • Parasitic infections
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Other viral infections: clinical epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, therapy, outcome, pathogenesis
  • Emerging infections

Further guidelines

  • All Abstracts must be in ENGLISH only. Abstracts must be typed, single spaced, using Times New Roman typeface in 10-point size only. Abstract text must be single line spaced and justified at the left margin only. Do not leave blank lines between paragraphs. Do not indent.
  • Abstract title should appear in bold. Do not indent. The title should be concise and reflect the content of the abstract.
  • Use first initial followed by last name. Omit degrees. For paper submissions, place an asterisk (*) after the name of the author presenting the paper. On a separate line, type as succinctly as possible the names of institutions and countries.
  • Leave one line blank in between the title/author block and the abstract text. The abstract text should include background, methods, results, and conclusion.
  • Each abstract may contain up to a maximum of 450 words, including title, author's name and affiliations and the abstract text. (Spaces are not counted)
  • Use italics only when appropriate (e.g. for names of genus and species). Simple table and graphs (nest and in black ink) may be included.
  • Abstracts will be published as submitted, i.e. any error appearing in the submitted abstract will appear in the published abstract book.

Young Investigator Award Criteria

Two abstracts involving research of scientific merit will be selected for the APCCMI Young Investigator Award. Each winner will receive a travel grant equivalent to the cost of a round trip economy-class air ticket, 3 nights hotel accommodation and waiver of registration fee.

All young scientists submitting presentations are encouraged to apply. Applicants must:

  • Be under the age of 35 at the start of the Congress.
  • Submit an abstract and be the presenting author of the abstract.
  • Indicate "I wish to be considered for the Young Investigator Award" on the abstract application form.
  • Submit the registration form and pay the registration fee in advance. The registration fee will be reimbursed at the time of the Congress.

The Scientific Committee will make the final judgment for awards and winners will be informed in advance. The awards will be presented during the opening ceremony on 26th November 2014. Abstracts must be based on results that have not been published in any journal or presented at any national or international scientific conference prior to 20th November 2014.
